Your Thanksgiving table<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since you\u2019re likely to be celebrating on a much smaller scale this year, you might be looking to make some alterations to your table. There are some great ideas here for alternate main dishes<\/a>, like pot pies and stuffed squashes. If you do want to have turkey without the whole shebang, try grabbing a turkey breast, instead. It cooks fast and will limit the effort, and the endless leftovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We love this pumpkin soup recipe for so many reasons\u2014not the least of which is that it only takes a few minutes to make! \u201dCanned pumpkin pur\u00e9e and heavy cream make this soup ultra creamy, while saut\u00e9ed onion and a hint of pumpkin pie spice lend just the right amount of sweetness,\u201d said Good Housekeeping<\/a>. \u201cA few glugs of chicken broth bring it all together, so make sure you\u2019re using your favorite (low sodium!) store-bought brand or good homemade chicken broth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is this the year you graduate from the jiggly, canned cranberry sauce to something more sophisticated? Homemade cranberry sauce is surprisingly easy to make, not to mention delicious. This version uses citrus and cinnamon. \u201cBlanching the chopped orange in boiling water before cooking it with the cranberries removes any bitterness from the peel and pith,\u201d said Bon Appetit.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point, we\u2019re all pretty used to having Zoom meetings for work and Zoom get-togethers with friends we haven\u2019t been able to see in person. Save a space at the table for your laptop or tablet and enjoy Thanksgiving together. \u201dSet up a virtual happy hour or a video call before, after, or even during your meal with those who can’t make it to the table, so they’ll feel like they’re there,\u201d said Oprah Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Help someone who needs it<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are some safer ways to volunteer in person, and plenty of other ways to help those who are less fortunate<\/a> this year while social distancing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watch holiday-themed entertainment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thanksgiving Day Parade and National Dog Show will both go on this\nyear and be televised, although they might also look a little different. It\u2019s\nthe perfect time to sit down and enjoy these programs together\u2014or start the\ntradition of watching them, without the distraction of so much family noise in\nthe house. This is also great time to binge all the Friends Thanksgiving\nepisodes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start your holiday decorations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you usually wait until after Thanksgiving to start putting up your\nholiday decorations, you\u2019ve got a great reason to break them out right after\ndinner this year.
